The ultra-wealthy and powerful corporations have rigged the system in their favor for far too long, driving rampant inequality at the expense of ordinary working families. Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was a shameless $1 trillion giveaway to the top 0.1%, while the bottom 95% saw little benefit. With this highly unpopular law set to expire in 2025, we must seize this opportunity to rewrite our tax code. We cannot allow an extension or expansion of these unfair handouts that overwhelmingly benefit billionaires and big business. Instead, we need a progressive tax system where the ultra-rich and corporations pay their fair share. One that raises substantial revenue to invest in schools, healthcare, infrastructure, clean energy and other programs that make life affordable for all Americans. An equitable tax code would be a powerful tool to address the inequality crisis, rein in unbridled wealth concentration, and build an economy that prioritizes working families over amassing fortunes for a privileged few. This is a pivotal moment to create a tax system that moves us toward greater equality and opportunity. I urge Congress to let Trump's tax cuts for the wealthy expire, and to overhaul our upside-down tax code so that it works for the benefit of all, not just the ultra-rich and big corporations. Now is the time to tax excessive wealth and corporate profits to fund vital public goods and services that uplift working families and communities.
