I am writing to strongly urge you to vote YES on the bipartisan War Powers Resolution regarding Iran. With our attack on Iran and the tragic loss of American servicemembers this week, the need for Congressional oversight has never been more urgent.
You should support this resolution based on three core principles that align with your commitment to our state and the country:
-- Constitutional Originalism: Article I, Section 8 is unambiguous: only Congress has the power to declare war. To allow any administration to engage in a sustained air campaign without an Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) is to bypass the highest law of the land and abdicate your duty as a legislator. You owe it to the people of our state to ensure that this administration operates within constitutional law.
-- An "America First" Foreign Policy: Americans are tired of "forever wars" and nation-building exercises that lack clear exit strategies and defined objectives. We cannot afford to drift into a major regional conflict that drains our resources and distracts from critical issues at our own borders and within our own economy.
