No one seems to know where Jeffrey Epstein got the $600M he had when he died.
Bloomberg recently unearthed emails showing Epstein’s role as freelance client development officer, acting as a channel between political figures and business leaders.
Based on these emails, one politician has been held to account, and he’s a Brit. Peter Mandelson, the UK ambassador to the US. Emails showed that Lord Mandelson had steered a $1B banking deal Epstein’s way and expressed sympathy for Epstein’s 2008 conviction for child sexual procurement.
The emails show how Epstein used access and gifts to create spheres of influence.
But no one seems to know where his wealth came from.
The NYT reported that despite internal red flags about suspicious cash withdrawals and transfers, JPMorgan Chase continued to consider Epstein a treasured customer with more than $200M in accounts.
Congressional committees, government agencies, and journalists are actively following the money trail of Epstein. Investigations have focused on his financial network to hold his enablers accountable and ensure justice for victims of his sex trafficking ring.
• Senate Finance Committee: Led by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR), this committee has been a leader in pressing federal agencies to release Epstein's financial records. Wyden's office reviewed files showing more than 4,700 wire transfers, totaling over $1B , moving in and out of Epstein's bank accounts.
• House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform: Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) has stated the committee will follow Epstein's money trail for transparency and accountability for survivors.
• U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ): The DOJ and FBI are investigating why financiers paid Epstein large sums of money and are looking into sanctioned Russian banks that Epstein allegedly used.
• U.S. Treasury Department: The Treasury Department agreed to cooperate with Congress and share Epstein's financial records, including Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) filed by financial institutions.
• U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI) Attorney General: The USVI has been aggressive in its pursuit of Epstein's estate and those who enabled his crimes. In 2023, billionaire Leon Black settled for $62.5M with the USVI, with the settlement including an acknowledgment that Epstein used Black's payments to help fund his operation.
If all these investigations do their job, light will finally be shed on how his wealth was accrued, how his lifestyle was maintained, and who helped fund it all. Either with a blind eye to his depravity, or as an active participant in it.
Will the GOP participate in this long-overdue discovery efforts? Or continue to participate in the inept cover-up?
Seems a no-brainer doesn’t it?
