Oppose the Expansion of ICE Detention "Mega-Center"

I am writing to urge you to use all tools at your disposal to oppose the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) plan to acquire and convert warehouses into massive ICE detention centers. This nationwide initiative, funded by billions of taxpayer dollars, aims to expand detention capacity to over 92,000 beds through facilities that reportedly could hold up to 10,000 people each.
These warehouses are being purchased with a complete lack of transparency, stripping local communities of tax revenue and burdening infrastructure without any public input. More importantly, these sites threaten to replicate the dangerous and inhumane conditions documented in existing ICE facilities, which have seen a record number of deaths due to medical neglect and unsafe environments. Converting industrial spaces into carceral facilities is a dehumanizing approach that prioritizes detention capacity over human dignity.
However, grassroots opposition is working. From Mississippi to Virginia, public pressure has successfully persuaded property owners to back out of sales and politicians to intervene. I ask you to join this bipartisan effort. Please publicly oppose any new ICE detention facilities in our community and across the country, and support oversight to halt this dangerous expansion.
