Head Start is one of the most successful programs Congress has ever created. Its ROI ratio is absolutely off the charts. But right now, today, dozens of Head Start programs all over the country are unable to access the funds they're entitled to from HHS. As a result, some of them have had to lay off staff, and others are on the brink of shutting down completely.
HHS claims that these are just "technical issues" that they are working to resolve. Who knows whether they're telling the truth or not. It's mighty suspicious, isn't it, that a program which primarily serves underrepresented and otherwise disadvantaged families is facing this funding challenge at the start of the Trump administration?
Regardless of the cause, Congress has oversight responsibility over HHS. Please call the HHS Secretary to Capitol Hill to testify daily until this problem is fully resolved and every Head Start program has access to the funds they're entitled to.
