Impeachment Should Serve Justice, Not Political Favor

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the recent initiative led by Representative Brandon Gill to IMPEACH U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE James Boasberg on allegations of judicial overreach. REP. Gill contends that judge Boasberg’s decision to block PRESIDENT TRUMP’s executive order on deportations constitutes a “high crime and misdemeanor” warranting IMPEACHMENT. If this standard is to be applied to the judiciary, it is imperative that we hold the PRESIDENT to the same level of accountability.
If overstepping constitutional authority is deemed an IMPEACHABLE offense, then the same principle must apply to PRESIDENT TRUMP, who has allegedly defied court rulings by continuing deportations despite judicial intervention. If IMPEACHMENT is considered the appropriate remedy for a JUDGE perceived to have overreached, it should likewise be applicable to a PRESIDENT who does the same. Selective enforcement of IMPEACHMENT standards based on political convenience undermines the foundational principles of checks and balances that underpin our democracy.
It is also noteworthy that REP. GILL has introduced the “Golden Age Act of 2025,” proposing to feature PRESIDENT TRUMP’s portrait on the $100 bill, replacing Benjamin Franklin. While honoring a sitting PRESIDENT in such a manner is unconventional, it raises questions about the prioritization of legislative efforts. This proposal, alongside the push for Judge Boasberg’s IMPEACHMENT, suggests a focus on political symbolism over substantive legal processes.
JUDICIAL independence is a fundamental safeguard in our system of government. JUDGES make decisions based on their interpretation of the law, and when those decisions are contested, they are subject to APPEAL —not political retribution. Similarly, if a PRESIDENT disregards the judiciary’s authority, it must be met with the same level of scrutiny and accountability.
I urge you and your colleagues to apply IMPEACHMENT standards consistently. If Judge Boasberg is to be IMPEACHED for allegedly exceeding his constitutional authority, then the same logic must extend to PRESIDENT TRUMP and any other elected official who defies the rule of law. Otherwise, this effort appears to be more about political loyalty than protecting the integrity of our institutions.
