What we’re reading…
The Talking Points Memo series on the recent publicly released texts between Mark Meadows and members of Congress leading up to January 6. They show that 34 members of Congress wrote to Meadows as part of the attempt to install Trump back in the White House by counting out Biden’s legitimate electors.
Included in these messages is one of my senators, Ted Cruz.
As well, Representative Brian Babin (R-TX) wrote to Meadows: “Mark, When we lose Trump we lose our Republic. Fight like hell and find a way. We’re with you down here in Texas and refuse to live under a corrupt Marxist dictatorship. Liberty!”
And Representative Ralph Norman (R-SC), who wrote on January 17, three days before Biden’s inauguration: “Our LAST HOPE is invoking Marshall [sic] Law!! PLEASE URGE TO PRESIDENT TO DO SO!!”
As dismaying as the effort within our government to overthrow same, is the ignorance of even the spelling of martial law, much less recommending it as an option to overthrow the democracy you work for.
Also, by a vote of 62-0, the State Republican Executive Committee passed a resolution saying it had lost confidence in the chair of the Republican National Committee, Ronna McDaniel. The resolution said she “must be replaced.”
Ouch. If the Texas GOP is unhappy with their representative, how bad do you have to be? Even they seem tired of being tied to a losing proposition.
Lastly, we’re all sick of her, but she’s yours, so you get to hear about it…Marjorie Taylor Green lamenting she wasn’t in charge of the January 6 insurrection. Because she would have gotten the job done. With more guns.
This seditious behavior has been fostered by the GOP House. She seems to strike terror in the hearts of anyone who might be able to muzzle her. But with her recent words, she has crossed over from ridiculous publicity-seeker to espousing overthrow of her own government, of which she is supposed to be a defender.
How is she allowed to keep any relevance within the GOP? At the very least she should be relegated to the back of the room and shunned forever more.
