First, congratulations Sen. Padilla on your appointment.
I am writing to both of you to ask you to favorably consider two items.
1. Please stand firm with Sen. Schumer against giving up the option of eliminating the filibuster. We have seen how Sen. McConnell works to undermine almost every Democratic proposal, even if it would benefit the citizens of his own state. His main interest is in maintaining his power.
2. Six Senators voted against accepting the certified electoral votes from Arizona and seven voted against accepting the votes from Pennsylvania. And this was after the storming of the Capitol in an attempt to overthrow the election results.
I think Senators Hawley, Cruz, Hyde-Smith, Kennedy, Lummis, Marshall, Scott and Tuberville should be investigated for sedition in encouraging the attempted overthrow of legal free and fair elections.
Every state certified their votes, they all (even red states) said there was no evidence of “massive fraud” as alleged by Trump and his supporters.
I think all of those Senators should not be allowed to vote in Trump’s impeachment trial as they have violated their oath of office to preserve and protect the Constitution. No one should be on the “jury” of a trial in which they may be called as a witness. There has already been a request to have Senators Cruz and Hawley investigated on ethics charges. I think at minimum those two should be expelled from the Senate as they were the instigators of the Senate protest. Their justification of trying to “protect the integrity” of the elections rings hollow, especially as what they were doing was creating doubt about the elections in spite of Secretaries of State and the chief Federal elections security official all saying the elections were free of “massive fraud”.
Please keep the eliminating the filibuster option open, and ensure that the impeachment vote is free of extreme bias.
Thank you.
