An open letter to the U.S. Congress

El Salvador is not a deportation dumping ground

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The Trump administration's stance of not working with El Salvadoran officials to return Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was mistakenly deported to that country, is deeply concerning. Deporting individuals to nations where they face grave danger or hardship, without due process, violates principles of human rights and dignity. The United States has a moral obligation to rectify this injustice swiftly and bring Mr. Abrego Garcia back to the safety of this country, in accordance with the court order. Insisting it is not bound to cooperate with the Salvadoran government displays a troubling disregard for international cooperation and undermines the rule of law. We urge the administration to uphold democratic values, facilitate Mr. Abrego Garcia's prompt return, and prevent such egregious mistakes from occurring again in the future.
