I am writing today as a resident and voter to ask for your unequivocal support of Israel and the denouncement of antisemitism at home and abroad. While Hamas has perpetrated a barbaric genocidal pogrom against defenseless civilians, I have not heard of direct actions you are undertaking to support the Jewish community at home and in Israel. The usual script of “thoughts and prayers” is simply not enough after years of letting a growth of antisemitism take a foothold in our communities. We have dehumanized the Jewish people. Hamas committed vile atrocities against women, children, and the elderly for no reason other than that they were Jews. Hamas has killed and taken hostage American citizens threatening to to torture and mutilate them. Meanwhile, I see local universities, politicians, and groups going to the streets of Massachusetts to celebrate these genocidal crimes. I demand action from you to denounce these local groups and to put pressure on the universities that have promoted this hate. I demand that you support President Biden in his efforts to assist Israel. I demand that you increase security in our state to protect synagogues, Jewish schools, and Jewish businesses.
We will not stop this vile hate by offering “thoughts and prayer” or equivocating that Palestinians have a right to their own state while Palestinian terrorist organizations actively strive to kill Americans and Israelis. Your actions thus far are not visible. If the KKK held a celebratory march in Boston or Cambridge after the murder of African American children, I would imagine you would be in a rush to denounce them and to rightly bring resources into the community to protect African Americans. I ask no different. Hate is hate, and genocidal acts can not be tolerated or excused. It is not ok to stand silent or give ambiguous statements that only support antisemitism. You must act decisively.
