And we thought marble bathrooms and golden ballrooms were tone deaf. Wait till you see the pics from the Great Gatsby-themed party at Mar-a-Lago, just a few hours before millions of Americans were about to be thrown off of food assistance.
The Great Gatsby skewered the immoral and meaningless lives of the very wealthy during the Jazz Age. Who spent their time throwing extravagant parties and laying waste to the lives of the people around them.
“They were careless people,” Fitzgerald wrote, “they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
That Trump threw such a party at this moment proves Fitzgerald’s point to we the people. We starve. He parties.
But back to the world he’s creating for the rest of us…
American military might is being pointed at Venezuela, in the form of blowing up anonymous people in boats because they are drug runners.
Does anyone have proof of these ever-escalating claims?
Remember what y’all did after Nixon/Cambodia? Passed a War Powers Resolution to reassert congressional power over foreign wars.
The law requires a president to notify Congress in writing within 48 hours of the start of hostilities. To include the legal grounds for those hostilities, why they are necessary, and an estimate of their scope and duration.
The law requires the president to get the approval of Congress for any hostilities lasting more than 60 days.
On 9/4/25 Trump notified Congress of a strike against a vessel in the Caribbean that he said “was assessed to be affiliated with a designated terrorist organization and to be engaged in illicit drug trafficking activities.” The letter added: “I am providing this report as part of my efforts to keep the Congress fully informed, consistent with the War Powers Resolution.”
There. He patted y’all on the head. Done and done.
Monday will mark 60 days from that announcement, but the administration does not appear to be planning to ask for Congress’s approval. Or share information about the strikes.
Do you think this is adequate? Are you happy sending us into a potential war by your complacency?
How do you feel about the courts having to order the government to release funds to feed Americans, but then have the president begin the usual stall with the law?
He wants to litigate feeding the citizenry but declaring war against anyone he wants doesn’t require a thing, other than the doing.
Can’t you see by now how he is accustomed to living his life? Carelessly. He smashes people and things. And always has other people to clean up after him. Always.
Aren’t you tired of being those people?
