Expand Social Security: Support the Social Security 2100 Act.

Representative John Larson (D-CT) just released an updated version of his landmark bill to expand Social Security: The Social Security 2100 Act. If enacted, this bill would fulfill the promise of our Social Security system, extend the lifespan of the Social Security trust fund, and reduce inequality. The 2100 Act's legislation would increase benefits for current and new beneficiaries by eliminating the Social Security tax cap, and by adding a tax on investment income for taxpayers making over $400,000. It would stop automatic Social Security cuts—and increase benefits by more than $750 per year on average. It would ensure that a person who worked their whole life doesn't spend retirement in poverty. The bill also includes provisions to fight back against the Trump administration's attacks on the Social Security Administration. That includes undoing staffing cuts, blocking future closures of field offices, and preventing political appointees from accessing our private data. The Social Security Administration projects that senators elected in 2026 will be in office when Social Security's trust fund is exhausted. At that point, we will face a choice: Do we let an across-the-board cut to Social Security benefits take effect or do we finally make the rich pay their fair share? This bill would make sure that Social Security's trust fund survives for the rest of this century. Rep.
