Stop Texas Book Bans, Pushing Religion into Tx Ed & Divisive Policies

I am writing to express my concerns regarding the 2025 legislative priorities outlined by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, particularly those aimed at banning books, infusing religion into public schools, and targeting LGBTQ+ individuals. These measures not only undermine the values of inclusivity and freedom but also contradict the desires of many Texans.
Evidence shows that censorship in schools, such as book bans, stifles critical thinking and deprives students of diverse perspectives essential for a well-rounded education. Surveys consistently reveal that a majority of Americans oppose book bans, emphasizing the importance of intellectual freedom in fostering an informed citizenry. Similarly, placing religious symbols or teachings in public schools risks alienating students from diverse faiths and violates the principle of separation of church and state, a cornerstone of our democracy.
Moreover, recent legislative attacks on LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly trans Texans, have had devastating effects on mental health and community cohesion. Research highlights that inclusive policies reduce suicide rates among LGBTQ+ youth and foster safer environments for all students. Texans deserve laws that protect their rights and dignity rather than marginalize them.
I urge you to focus on policies that make Texas more welcoming for everyone. This includes restoring reproductive rights, which align with the majority opinion in Texas favoring access to safe and legal abortion care, and supporting LGBTQ+ protections to ensure equality for all residents.
Let us work together to build a Texas that reflects its diversity and champions freedom, fairness, and opportunity for
