Protect Voting Rights: Reject the SAVE America Act in Any Form

I urge you to vote NO on the SAVE America Act and reject any attempt to attach it to other legislation. Congress recently made important bipartisan progress toward addressing America’s housing affordability crisis. Families struggling with skyrocketing rents, first-time homebuyers locked out of the market, and seniors living on fixed incomes need Congress focused on lowering costs and expanding access to affordable housing—not creating new political distractions and barriers to voting. The SAVE America Act would impose burdensome documentation requirements on millions of eligible voters. More than 21 million American citizens do not have easy access to the documents this bill would require, and roughly half of all Americans do not possess a passport. Married women whose names differ from those on their birth certificates, seniors, military families, rural voters, people with disabilities, working parents, and low-income Americans would face some of the greatest obstacles. There is no justification for making it harder for eligible citizens to register and vote. The right to vote is the foundation of our democracy. Congress should be protecting that right, not erecting new barriers that risk disenfranchising millions of law-abiding Americans. Whether it appears as a standalone bill, is attached to the National Defense Authorization Act, folded into a reconciliation package, or added to any other must-pass legislation, the answer should be the same: NO. Americans deserve leaders who will address real challenges like housing affordability, rising costs, and economic security—not legislation that makes it harder for citizens to participate in elections. Vote NO on the SAVE America Act in any form.
