Hold Democrats Accountable for Voting to Criminalize Trans Healthcare

I am writing to urge you to take decisive action against the three Democratic representatives who voted for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's bill criminalizing gender-affirming care for transgender youth. Reps. Henry Cuellar, Vincente Gonzalez Jr, and Don Davis crossed party lines to provide the decisive votes needed to pass this extreme legislation alongside 213 Republicans. This bill goes beyond restricting healthcare access. It criminalizes parents and medical providers who support trans youth, imposing penalties of up to 10 years imprisonment for providing the same medical care that remains legal for cisgender youth. This represents government interference in private medical decisions between patients, parents, and doctors, a position fundamentally at odds with Democratic values. The medical consensus is clear. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the Endocrine Society, and the American Medical Association all recognize gender-affirming care as the standard of care. Puberty blockers are reversible, and the overwhelming majority of trans youth do not change their minds. These are established medical facts, not political opinions. These three Democrats gave Republicans a political victory on legislation that attacks a vulnerable minority, restricts access to legitimate healthcare, and violates free speech and expression. Their votes were cast as part of political bargaining over military funding, trading the rights and safety of trans youth for legislative convenience. The Democratic Party can and should be a big tent with room for ideological diversity. However, there must be lines that cannot be crossed. Voting to criminalize parents for supporting their children's healthcare crosses that line. I am asking you to support formal disciplinary action against these three representatives, including removal from committee assignments and withdrawal of party campaign support. Trans youth and their families deserve to know that the Democratic Party will stand with them when it matters most.
