An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend democracy against authoritarian threats - a call to action

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The events outlined in the article "How Hitler Dismantled a Democracy in 53 Days" from The Atlantic detailing Hitler's systematic dismantling of democracy in Germany within a short span of time serve as a chilling historical precedent. Drawing legal and constitutional means into service for authoritarian ends represents a perversion of the democratic process. We must remain vigilant against any attempt to subvert our democratic institutions and processes, no matter how incremental or cloaked in legality. I urge you to uphold your sworn duty to safeguard the Constitution and the fundamental rights and freedoms it enshrines for all citizens. Defend our democracy against any forces that would erode its foundations through specious means or gradually concentrate power at the expense of vital checks and balances. Complacency in the face of such threats is unacceptable. Take a stand now to secure our republic for future generations.
