The passage of H.R. 1 has handed the Trump administration an unprecedented $171 billion to intensify mass deportation operations, including $45 billion for detention centers and $30 billion for new ICE officers and transportation. This funding exceeds the total immigration enforcement budgets of previous administrations combined. It enables more ICE raids nationwide that terrorize residents through masked abductions and violent assaults. It facilitates the construction of inhumane concentration camps like the facility dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" built atop a Florida swamp. It drives essential workers into hiding, damaging local economies and communities. Despite its immense budget, ICE still relies on partnerships with local law enforcement facilitated by $14 billion in incentives. This push towards an authoritarian police state must be resisted. Oversight investigations into ICE's conduct and detention conditions are crucial to hold the administration accountable for violating due process rights and subjecting detainees to extremely inhumane treatment. Communities deserve protection from these terrifying assaults on human rights and civil liberties.
