I am writing to urge you to oppose the new Republican voter suppression legislation currently under consideration. This legislation threatens the fundamental right to vote and will create unnecessary barriers for eligible voters in our community.
Voter suppression measures disproportionately impact working families, seniors, students, and communities of color who already face challenges accessing the ballot box. These restrictions solve a problem that does not exist. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud that would justify making it harder for citizens to exercise their constitutional rights.
Instead of restricting access, we should be expanding opportunities for eligible voters to participate in our democracy. Every citizen who is legally entitled to vote should be able to do so without facing discriminatory obstacles or unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles.
I am deeply concerned about provisions that would limit early voting hours, restrict mail-in ballot access, impose stricter ID requirements, or reduce the number of ballot drop boxes. These measures create hardships for constituents who work multiple jobs, lack transportation, or have disabilities that make in-person voting difficult.
Our democracy is strongest when participation is highest. Rather than erecting barriers, we should be protecting and strengthening voting rights for all eligible citizens. I ask that you stand firmly against this voter suppression legislation and instead support measures that make voting more accessible and secure for everyone.
I urge you to vote no on this legislation and to publicly oppose any efforts to restrict voting access. Your constituents are watching how you respond to this critical issue, and we need leaders who will defend our right to vote rather than undermine it.
