I am writing as your constituent to urge you to support the Arctic Refuge Protection Act–a critical piece of legislation that would permanently protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
The Arctic Refuge is one of America’s last truly wild landscapes, home to polar bears, caribou, migratory birds, and communities who have depended on this land for generations. Yet it remains under constant threat from oil companies looking to exploit it for short-term profit. Drilling in this fragile ecosystem would bring roads, pipelines, and heavy industrial equipment into a region that is already experiencing the devastating effects of climate change nearly four times faster than anywhere else on Earth.
Opening the Refuge to oil development would disrupt vital wildlife habitat, accelerate warming, and deepen our dependence on fossil fuels at a time when we should be transitioning to clean energy. Protecting the Refuge is a matter of environmental justice, climate responsibility, and respect for the Gwich’in people, who have long opposed drilling in their lands.
This legislation is supported by a broad coalition of organizations representing conservationists, hunters, wildlife advocates, and more. Please co-sponsor and publicly support the Arctic Refuge Protection Act and work to pass it into law.
Thank you for considering my perspective.
