I'm writing today because while it is good news that the rules have been agreed to and Democrats can now begin working on passing bold legislation, we have only “won” the Senate majority that voters had already given to the Democrats If Mitch McConnell tries to block bills using the filibuster, Democrats must end it. We only have a short window to get anything done, and no time can be spared attempting to appease McConnell and the GOP. If HR1/S1 or The John Lewis Voting Rights Act or COVID Relief or DC Statehood are stymied by the filibuster, it is your duty to demand it be removed, and work to convince your colleagues as well. A just-published article in NY Mag shows that without bold legislation to rebalance democracy it will pave the way for an authoritarian regime by mid-decade. Democratic inaction will only enable those who want to see government - and democracy - fail.
Thank you for your time and attention.
