Restore education research, support services for vulnerable students

These education cuts by the Trump administration's DOGE initiative are severely impacting critical programs that support students with disabilities, literacy research, and evidence-based teaching practices. Terminating contracts like Charting My Path, which provided invaluable assistance to nearly 1,100 high schoolers with disabilities nationwide in planning for independent living, employment, or continued education, abruptly halts vital services mid-year. Similarly, cutting funding for the Regional Educational Laboratories deprives states of essential research partnerships that have driven proven reforms, like Mississippi's substantial reading gains. While administrations can adjust priorities, these sweeping terminations disrupt effective programs before completing their work or delivering findings. This not only wastes the substantial investments already made, but forsakes a duty to the students, families, educators, and communities who participated with the promise of gaining insight into improved outcomes. Indiscriminate cuts undermine support for our most vulnerable learners and reverse progress on implementing research-backed practices. I urge you to reconsider these detrimental actions that compromise educational quality and equity. Our students deserve access to programs informed by rigorous study and real-world impact data.
