Oppose and Vote NO on Ed Martin for U.S. Attorney for D.C. - Unfit for Office

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to oppose and vote NO on the nomination of Ed Martin for U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. Once again, everything about this man is wrong and there are so many red flags. As a longtime Trump loyalist and promoter of the baseless "Stop the Steal" movement, Martin has demonstrated a disturbing lack of impartiality and respect for the integrity of our electoral process. For an officer of the courts, this is no acceptable. Martin’s involvement in defending Jan. 6 defendants and his presence at the Capitol that day raise serious questions about his ability to prosecute these cases fairly and objectively. Martin's criticism of the Jan. 6 prosecutions and his actions as acting U.S. Attorney, such as demoting prosecutors involved in these cases and seeking to dismiss charges against a client he previously represented, are clear ethical violations and proof positive of his conflicts of interest. He also lacks prosecutorial experience, and combined with his extreme partisan allegiance to Trump, and the obvious Heritage Society fringe, makes him unsuitable for this crucial position. The U.S. Attorney for D.C. oversees sensitive federal corruption cases and was responsible for the historic prosecution of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists. Appointing a Trump loyalist like Martin, who has actively worked to undermine faith in the 2020 election results, would severely compromise the independence and integrity of this office. I urge you to reject this nomination and ensure the next U.S. Attorney for D.C. is a principled, non-partisan public servant committed to upholding the rule of law.
