An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reject prisoner transfer deal, uphold human rights principles

12 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

The proposed deal between the US and El Salvador to house violent criminals and deportees from any country raises serious ethical and legal concerns. Transferring prisoners to a foreign nation without their consent and due process is a violation of human rights and could enable further mistreatment. Moreover, El Salvador is known for its controversial, widespread, arbitrary detentions without evidence, undermining the rule of law. I urge you to reject this unconscionable agreement and instead advocate for humane immigration policies that respect human dignity and uphold democratic values. Outsourcing incarceration to an authoritarian regime with a pattern of abuses against civil liberties sets a dangerous precedent that erodes America's credibility on human rights. Real solutions lie in comprehensive immigration reform, not exploiting vulnerable populations as bargaining chips. For all your fellow Americans, please act swiftly.
