An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Congress: Enforce the Epstein Files Transparency Act Now

I am writing to urge you to immediately exercise Congress’s oversight powers and hold Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and the Department of Justice accountable for actively obstructing justice. In late 2025, Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act (EFTA) with an overwhelming, bipartisan mandate for absolute transparency. Despite this, the DOJ has weaponized heavy redactions and procedural stonewalling to shield critical information from law enforcement.  On July 9, 2026, New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez revealed that the DOJ has delayed releasing unredacted files to state investigators for over 130 days. Because federal prosecutors closed their cases years ago, New Mexico is currently running the nation's only active criminal investigation into the vast network of abuse exposed by the Epstein files. By blacking out the names of active co-conspirators, financial enablers, and key witnesses, the federal government is systematically running out the clock on the statute of limitations nationwide and denying survivors their day in court. This institutional shielding is a direct continuation of the systemic cover-ups and protection of the powerful that allowed these horrific crimes to go unpunished for decades. The DOJ's actions are a direct violation of both the spirit and the letter of the EFTA. Congress cannot continue to allow the Executive Branch to break its laws with impunity. I demand that the House and Senate Judiciary Committees immediately: 1. Issue federal subpoenas for the unredacted files requested by the New Mexico Department of Justice. 2. Subpoena Todd Blanche to testify under oath regarding the DOJ's review protocols and abuse of redactions. 3. Introduce an amendment to the EFTA that legally mandates the immediate, confidential sharing of unredacted files with state Attorneys General pursuing active criminal cases. Survivors deserve justice, and the American people deserve accountability. Do your job and enforce the law.
