I’m writing to urge you to impeach President Trump. He has broken his oath of office to uphold the constitution. How? He has moved U.S. troops to act against U.S. citizens by calling in the National Guard to D.C., and he’s threatening to do the same in various cities around the country. He has used cruel and unusual punishment on immigrants and citizens alike by deporting them to random countries – not their country of origin, but by sending them elsewhere, such as El Salvador. Immigrants who are here legally have also suffered this fate. This is most unusual and certainly cruel. Both of these actions alone violate our Constitution. In addition, using the Alien Enemies Act of 1789 to have ICE agents summarily remove and deport people—alleged Venezuelan gang members—without due process of law, violates the Constitution’s 5th Amendment.
Trump and his cronies also violated the 4th Amendment, which specifies a right to privacy: : “The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures shall not be violated” except when there’s “probable cause” backed by sworn search warrants. DOGE had neither, but collected confidential information about individuals for the IRS, medical information from the DHHS, and data about labor law cases from the Labor Department. All of it was unconstitutional.
This president also refuses to acknowledge procedure. Congress is in charge of funding, and he uses his executive orders to claw back money Congress has already promised. This violates the checks and balances of power as set forth in our Constitution. Congress alone has the power to spend funds.
In addition, Trump refuses to follow law or rule of our Judicial system. He openly violates the very laws of which he swore to uphold. He seeks retribution on those he perceives are against him, while inviting dictators (Putin) to be celebrated on American military bases.
This is but a short list of the many ways the president continues to violate our Constitution – the document at the heart of our democracy and our country. He has chosen to break his oath of office. It’s time for Congress to follow the Constitution -- specifically Article II, section 4 -- by impeaching Trump. Send a clear message that no one is above the law.
