WHY IS THE GOP STALLING RELEASE OF THE EPSTEIN FILES?
1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
More of the typical disingenuous manipulation by the GOP Congress it would appear.
A week after a House Oversight subcommittee voted to subpoena the DOJ for records related to Jeffrey Epstein, the chairman of the full committee still hasn’t issued the order.
A stark contrast to the lightning speed that another order Rep. Comer (R-KY), said House Oversight chairman, issued and signed within 24 hours of a similar subcommittee vote that compelled Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell to testify before Congress.
Which raises questions about Republicans’ willingness to hold the Trump administration accountable for its failure to release the Epstein files in the face of significant backlash from we the people.
Handily, there is no deadline by which Comer must issue the subpoenas, according to House rules. “Chairman Comer has been clear that subpoenas will be issued in the near future,” a spokeswoman for the House Oversight Committee, Jessica Collins, said in a statement on Tuesday.
Blah blah blah. Another performative display of fealty lined up and ready to go.
Momentarily, it almost looked like maybe protecting child abusers was a bridge too far even for GOP politics. Alas. Maybe not so much.
If Maxwell provides information that’s helpful for Trump in exchange for getting out of jail, will he, with GOP support, pardon a convicted child abuser?
Or, having already been shown to be liar under oath, will she be granted immunity to testify, and conform any accusations as directed in order to get a ‘deal’?
It’s a pickle.
Meanwhile, the WH and every spokesperson with a microphone is assuring us that the crisis, although not dead, is under control. Nothing to see here. Handled and done.
While Trump himself has offered a taste of his continuing tactics to deflect. Asked about Epstein on Friday, Trump pointed reporters toward Democratic men whose names have previously been reported as associates of Epstein, including Bill Clinton and former Harvard president Larry Summers.
“You should focus on Clinton, you should focus on … the former president of Harvard,” Trump said. “You should focus on some of the hedge fund guys. I’ll give you a list. These guys lived with Jeffrey Epstein. I sure as hell didn’t.”
And there you have Trump loyalty in action. Anyone anywhere anytime gets thrown under the bus as required. He’s happy to release his own personal list, no problem.
Just release the files. He has them. You can get them. Stop playing games. Put an end to this national embarrassment.
