Reject voter suppression, expand voting rights and access

This executive order requiring documentary proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections is extremely concerning. It creates unnecessary barriers that could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities and underprivileged areas. Rather than making voting more accessible, this measure makes it harder for many citizens to exercise their fundamental right to vote. We should be focused on expanding voting rights and increasing participation in the democratic process. Requiring specific forms of ID presents difficulties for citizens who may not have ready access to those documents due to financial constraints or other challenges. This could lead to widespread voter suppression and undermine faith in our elections. Instead of erecting new hurdles, we need reforms that make voting more convenient and secure for all eligible citizens, regardless of their background or circumstances. Some common-sense solutions include expanding early voting periods, increasing polling locations and drop boxes in underserved areas, and providing free voter IDs to those who need them. Our democracy works best when more voices are heard.
