According to the Tampa Bay Times front page news (3/1), a study was done which revealed that between 2017 and 2019, most insurance companies reported a collective net loss of $432 million. This finding appeared to justify big rate increases. At the same time, their affiliate companies reported a net income of $1.8 BILLION. Insurers also spent $680 million on dividends to shareholders during those three years. As I understand it, the report documenting these facts was never disseminated to the legislature. I call upon you to convene a statewide grand jury and for House Speaker Daniel Perez to form a new committee to investigate the report and explain why lawmakers didn’t receive it.
