I urge you to publicly support, co-sponsor, and vote YES to Senator Sanders moratorium on AI data centers. I urge you to either launch or join an existing investigation on data centers here in our state. I urge you to investigate the pending utility rate increase(s) by our state utility(ies). I've read in news publications that, 'utility companies are offering secret discounted rates to data centers, and the costs associated with these discounts are being passed on to the public through higher utility bills (electricity and water). This practice has raised concerns about the fairness of utility rate structures and the financial burden on regular consumers.' Many utility companies in the U.S. are monopolistic entities. The general public is at the mercy of these monopolies to keep rates fair and affordable. Data centers produce environmental pollution (noise, air, ground) that needs to be thoroughly researched and considered before they are allowed to overburden communities and ecosystems. Senator Bernie Sanders has proposed a nationwide moratorium on the construction of AI data centers to address concerns about their rapid growth, potential job losses, and environmental impacts. He argues that this pause will allow for necessary public debate and ensure that technology benefits everyone, not just the wealthy. Act now before data centers cause unrepairable damage.
