I am writing to express my strong opposition to Secretarial Order SO3418, titled Unleashing American Energy, issued by the Department of the Interior. This order pushes for the expansion of fossil fuel development on public lands, including areas that could directly impact our beloved National Parks. As someone who deeply values these parks, I am devastated by the potential consequences this order could have on the landscapes, ecosystems, and communities that rely on these protected areas.
Our National Parks are not just beautiful places—they are vital cultural and environmental treasures that provide opportunities for recreation, support biodiversity, and preserve essential natural resources. I have visited several national parks over the years, and the thought of seeing them negatively impacted by industrial development is heart-wrenching. The serene landscapes, wildlife habitats, and air we breathe in these parks are irreplaceable, and I fear that expanding fossil fuel extraction on federal lands could permanently alter these irreplaceable places.
Rather than prioritizing energy extraction in areas that are home to vital ecosystems, I urge you to advocate for policies that focus on sustainable energy solutions and the protection of our National Parks. The preservation of these parks is crucial, not just for their beauty but for the countless benefits they provide to our environment, economy, and well-being. This is a moment where we can choose to protect the environment and shift toward cleaner energy, rather than continuing to exploit natural resources at the expense of our shared heritage.
Please consider the deep emotional and cultural significance these parks hold for so many Americans, including myself. Please oppose policies that could harm our parks and hinder the shift to a sustainable energy future. I hope you will take a stand to protect these precious lands for generations to come.
