An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend the Constitution—Protect the USPS

28 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to protect the United States Postal Service from any attempts to dismantle, privatize, or weaken it. As you know, the USPS was established by Congress under Article I, Section 8, Clause 7 of the U.S. Constitution, and any efforts to undermine it—whether through defunding, service reductions, or privatization—are not only dangerous but unconstitutional. The USPS is an essential public institution, serving as a lifeline for small businesses, rural communities, and those who rely on it for medicine, legal documents, and secure election mail. It is one of the most trusted government agencies, yet it continues to face attacks from those who seek to weaken our democratic infrastructure for private gain. We have already seen the devastating effects of unchecked executive overreach in just in the last few weeks, from Trump’s blatant attacks on democratic institutions to Musk’s reckless control over vital communication platforms, amplifying disinformation and eroding public trust, not to mention his sticky fingers finding their way into our most sensitive information through DOGE. These actions are not isolated; they are part of a broader pattern of undermining the systems that uphold democracy. We cannot allow further encroachments on congressional authority—especially when it comes to a service as essential as the USPS. I appreciate your hard work in standing against these attacks, and I urge you to use every tool at your disposal—subpoena power, investigations, legislative action—to ensure that the USPS remains a strong, independent institution for generations to come. Please let me know what specific steps you will take to defend the Postal Service and prevent any attempts to weaken it. Thank you for your time and for your continued commitment to upholding our constitutional democracy.
