Oppose DHS Appropriations That Fund ICE Operations

I am writing to urge you to oppose any Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill or Continuing Resolution that maintains funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement ahead of the January 30th deadline. ICE has demonstrated it cannot operate within constitutional bounds, and continued funding enables ongoing harm to communities across our district and nation.
Since ICE's establishment in 2003, the agency has conducted unconstitutional border checkpoints, separated families, denied due process rights, and subjected detained immigrants to documented physical, sexual, and mental abuse. These are not isolated incidents but systemic patterns that persist regardless of administration. Most recently, ICE killed Renee Good in Minnesota, marking the 9th ICE shooting since September 2025 alone. This escalating violence demonstrates that additional funding without accountability mechanisms only amplifies harm.
The "One Big Beautiful" bill already provided ICE with a $75 billion slush fund without guardrails or conditional oversight. This massive influx of resources has not improved operations or accountability. Instead, it has funded what amounts to violent attacks on immigrant communities while bypassing the oversight mechanisms Congress should demand for any federal agency receiving taxpayer dollars.
I understand the complexity of appropriations negotiations, but funding decisions reflect our values and priorities. Continuing to fund an agency with ICE's documented record of constitutional violations and violence is indefensible. Other approaches to immigration enforcement exist that do not require maintaining an agency with this track record.
I am asking you to take a clear stand by blocking any DHS appropriations bill or CR that funds ICE operations. The January 30th deadline provides an opportunity to demand accountability and redirect resources toward immigration policies that respect human rights and constitutional protections. I will be watching your vote on this matter closely and expect you to represent constituents who believe in due process and humane treatment for all people in our communities.
