Protect immigrant rights, reject indefinite detention without due process

This policy change by ICE to eliminate bond hearings and indefinitely detain undocumented immigrants is a severe violation of due process and human rights. Denying access to legal representation and judicial review will create an unjust system rife with abuse of power. Expanding detention capacity to over 100,000 people per day is an unconscionable waste of resources that will devastate lives and tear families apart. We cannot allow this draconian policy to move forward. It undermines America's core values of justice, fairness and human dignity. Indefinite detention without due process is a cruel and unconstitutional overreach that must be stopped. This will only breed more suffering, despair and injustice within our immigration system. Immediate legal action must be taken to block this policy's implementation. Congress should use its oversight authority to investigate this disturbing development and take steps to protect immigrant rights. We cannot stand idly by as ICE strips away essential civil liberties and human rights protections. This is a line that cannot be crossed in a free and democratic society.
