Support the NIH

I am writing to express my grave concern regarding the recent freeze imposed on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) operations and to urge your immediate action to restore its full functionality. The United States' global leadership in medical research is at risk when we impede the operations of our country’s premier medical research institution. The recent administrative freeze has halted critical operations, including grant review panels, communications, hiring, and travel. This disruption threatens both ongoing research projects and future medical breakthroughs that could save American lives. The NIH, as the world's largest public funder of biomedical research, plays an irreplaceable role in advancing public health. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 4 million American lives have been saved since 1991 due to NIH-supported research. Additionally, according to United for Medical Research, in 2023 alone, the NIH generated over $90 billion in economic activity and supported more than 400,000 jobs, impacting every state and nearly every congressional district in America. Every day this freeze continues puts vital research at risk. I strongly urge you to take immediate action to restore full NIH operations and protect America's leadership in medical research.
