The Gaza Strip is the size of the city of Las Vegas with approximately 3 times the population density. From October 7th - November 1st, the Israeli military dropped bombs an equivalent of 1.5 times the blast of the atomic bomb used on Hiroshima. It's November 6th when I'm writing this- I am terrified to know the new equivalent of devastation decimating such a small area of land after only 5 days. When telecommunications were cut again yesterday, the few videos and images that came out were horrifying- in a 1 minute video I couldn't count the number bombs dropped within seconds or the number drops of white phosphorus rained down repeatedly. Those within Gaza say it's the worst bombardment they've seen so far.
The confirmed death toll is approximately 10,000, and confirmed count of the injured is approximately 24,000. These numbers don't include the missing, those still alive trapped in rubble, and the bodies still buried in rubble.
The Indonesian Hospital, the second largest in Gaza, has lost all power this morning. All of the humanitarian workers and hospital staff in Gaza have made it clear to the world repeatedly that they have little to no supplies left to effectively treat patients- from women giving birth, to the wounded, to the chronically ill- all of them.
Yesterday I saw a 2 - 3 year old girl covered in burns from white phosphorus. She was screaming. They were so, so gentle moving her and trying to clean & care for her- you could see in their eyes the horror and pain seeing this child suffer, and the knowledge that what they could do for her wouldn't be enough to take away her pain. I saw another girl, probably 7-8, covered in mud, white phosphorus, a wound on her head- she was crying out for her mom. She said she was cold and scared. Her little body was shaking violently. For both of these girls- they were both WCNSF. Have you heard that acronym before? I hadn't either because medical staff had to come up with it in Gaza for the many wounded children with no surviving family who would arrive needing medical care.
How can you be this callous? Where is your humanity? You have done nothing but continue to cosign Israel's war crimes and accuse Americans who want this to end of antisemitism. Criticizing or condemning a government is not the same as hating Israeli people and the wider Jewish diaspora across the world.
I demand you call for an immediate ceasefire, the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from the area, all financial and military aid given to Israel to permanently cease, and for the billions you've taken to go instead to humanitarian relief in all of occupied Palestine to help them rebuild, care for the sick & injured, bury the dead with dignity, and ensure all of their basic needs are taken care of and are unable to be restricted by the Israeli government now and in the future.
