An open letter to the U.S. Congress

STRONG SUPPORT for S.J.Res.59

2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

As your constituent, I am writing to urge your strong support for S.J.Res.59. This resolution is a critical step in reasserting Congress’s constitutional authority over matters of war and peace. Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution explicitly grants Congress the power to declare war. Despite this, U.S. forces have increasingly been drawn into hostilities against Iran without specific statutory authorization. S.J.Res.59 ensures that any military engagement with Iran is preceded by transparent public debate and a formal vote by the people’s representatives. While the President maintains the authority to defend the nation against an immediate, imminent threat, our current trajectory risks a broader conflict without a clear strategy or legal mandate. Putting American service members in harm's way is the most serious decision a government can make; it should never be done by bypassing the legislative branch. I ask that you co-sponsor S.J.Res.59 and vote in favor of its passage to uphold our system of checks and balances. Thank you for your time and your service to our great State.
