The DNC recently spent time and money staging a stunt outside RNC headquarters. WTF? It wasted resources and lowered the standard of public leadership—right when democracy and working families are in real danger.
This is what people mean when they say they’ve stopped taking politics seriously. People see this, and they walk away. It looks like no one is taking anything seriously.
This might actually sound good to those of you in the power center, but the reality is that none of you will be successful without us. If two and a half million people could declare independence in 1776, then 350 million people certainly have that much power in 2025.
We need serious leadership from everyone in public service. When a national committee responds to authoritarian threats with taco trucks and costumes, it accepts the idea of government-as-theater. Except for maybe 30% of American citizens (and apparently a strong majority of people in Congress plus the White House), most of us don't accept politics as theater. We want real government back. We don’t want this self-reinforcing cycle of power, money, insider deals, and performative politics that’s been building, but that cleanup will take time. Right now, we need you to get serious.
Party committees are supposed to reflect the values and tone of the people who represent them. The DNC certainly doesn't represent me and the RNC doesn't represent most Republicans. When party leaders resort to public mockery, they choose absurdity over governance and signal that spectacle trumps substance.
I know members of both parties will see this letter. I hope my Democratic lawmakers were not personally involved in this ridiculous demonstration. And I hope Republicans recognize they’re riding in the clown car themselves, so this isn’t the moment for smugness. We need better from everyone.
