Solidarity with DC communities: Federal forces out now

As one of your constituents I'm writing today to express extreme concern for and solidarity with the people of the District of Columbia and to ask you to do everything in your power to remove the escalated federal law enforcement agents from DC, withdraw all National Guard members currently deployed there, and end the emergency period allowing for redirection of MPD resources. DC is home to 700,000 people including families, children, seniors, workers, and people of every age, race, ability and faith. These communities are joyful, powerful, and they deserve dignity — not police brutality. These federal agents have now shown a clear pattern of violently profiling, harassing, and arresting Black and Brown DC community members. They are armed, sometimes unidentified, and moving in gangs through DC neighborhoods confronting people who are simply at home, driving to work, or doing routine daily activities. The occupying federal forces are an ongoing and increasing danger to DC residents. On August 18, DC community leaders called for their immediate withdrawal. This situation is more than a threat to DC residents. It is an active military takeover of the nation's capital. This is something that no functioning democracy should ever allow. I call on you to take action to end this escalating emergency as fast as possible. Specifically, I ask you to support the termination resolution introduced by Rep. Jamie Raskin and Senator Chris Van Hollen, and reject any bill attempting to extend the length of time that Trump is allowed to redirect MPD resources.
