Demand Oversight on Proposed $1.01 Trillion Military Budget

I’m writing to urge your office to scrutinize the proposed $1.01 trillion military budget for fiscal year 2026 — a $119 billion increase over the previous year’s $892.6 billion.
This budget would shift more than half of all discretionary federal spending to the military, while slashing non-defense programs by $259 billion. As reported, just 24% of discretionary funds would remain for everything from education and infrastructure to public health and scientific research — priorities that impact the daily lives of Americans far more directly than new defense programs.
Even more concerning is the use of budget reconciliation to push through this increase, bypassing the regular legislative process. That’s not fiscal responsibility — it’s an end-run around accountability.
Regardless of party, elected officials have a duty to ensure taxpayer money is spent wisely. A $1 trillion defense budget — the largest in U.S. history — deserves full public debate, not shortcuts. I urge you to demand transparency, resist rubber-stamping this proposal, and fight for a budget that serves all Americans.
