An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop IRS from sharing taxpayer information!

6 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

This represents an unconscionable violation of privacy rights and due process for taxpaying members of our communities. Allowing ICE access to tax data from the IRS poses a severe risk of misuse to target and deport individuals who have been granted asylum or have no criminal records, without affording them any opportunity to defend themselves. Such an abuse of sensitive personal information to enable deportations of non-criminals is unacceptable. Taxpayers who dutifully file returns should not have their private data exploited in this manner. Protecting the privacy and rights of all residents must be prioritized over such problematic data sharing that can enable unjust deportations. I urge you to take immediate action to prohibit the IRS from providing any taxpayer information to immigration enforcement agencies.
