Resistbot Petition: Include the All-Electric Building Act (S562A/HA920A) in this year’s budget (N.Y. only)

An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (N.Y. only)

Include the All-Electric Building Act (S562A/HA920A) in this year’s budget

Please ensure the All-Electric Building Act (Senate# S562A)/(House#A920A) is included in the final NYS budget. Electrifying new buildings in New York would address the worsening climate crisis and ever-increasing home energy bills. A recent study by RMI found that buildings account for a third of New York’s greenhouse gas emissions; ending fossil fuel use would prevent air pollution, equivalent to keeping 870,000 gas-powered cars off the road for a year. As New Yorkers statewide face rate hikes of up to 50% (Food and Water Watch), a statewide analysis by Win Climate found that under the All-Electric Building Act, families in new homes would save an average of over $900 a year. I am asking you to please include the All-Electric Building Act in the “one house” budget proposal. 66 percent of likely New York voters support the move to ban fossil fuels in new construction, confirming similar poll results from January 2022. Fast action to decarbonize our economy is the only way to head off the climate emergency.
