This letter is to advise you against voting for a TikTok ban. Considering the potential political ramifications, a bought and paid-for vote to ban is short-sighted.
As you know, Gen Z and Millennials share many common social morals and ethics and are on track to become the largest voting electorate. Gen Z is currently the most prominent demographic using TikTok. Our combined resources and shared interests have the potential to disrupt current systems. Additionally, all voting demographics are increasingly dissatisfied with the democratic party’s continued failure to enact the will of the people.
The use of Tiktok was critical in the last two elections, and it is currently the only platform where information sharing is accessible. While I understand this is extremely inconvenient for you, silencing the voices of your constituents will be more so.
There are many compelling reasons to stop accepting payoffs so you may think critically about this decision, but this one will likely carry the most significant repercussions. Mr. Chew should be allowed to provide answers, as he was not allowed to speak during the four-hour interrogation. Your time is better spent working together to address security and algorithm issues.
Additionally, all other social media sites are now expected to be held to the same increased security and data-selling standards.
It is becoming increasingly transparent to the voters in this country that our voices aren’t being represented. This ban will solidify that knowledge and likely cost many of you a seat.
Sincerely,
An Angry Tiktok User
