The proposed bill H.R. 1161 to authorize negotiations to acquire Greenland and rename it "Red, White, and Blueland" is an unwise and presumptuous idea that should not move forward. Pursuing the acquisition of a semi-autonomous territory against the will of its people is a colonial relic that has no place in the modern world. Furthermore, renaming Greenland disrespects the cultural identity and self-determination of the Indigenous Greenlandic people. The United States should refrain from such imperialistic overtures and instead focus its efforts on addressing domestic issues and strengthening international cooperation based on principles of mutual respect and partnership. Greenland's sovereignty and right to self-governance must be honored. I urge you to firmly reject this misguided legislation that promotes antiquated colonial mindsets incompatible with American values of freedom and human rights.
