I am writing to express serious concern regarding reports of irregular and insufficient security measures at the recent Correspondents’ Dinner and associated events held at the hotel on Saturday evening.
This was not an ordinary gathering. It was a high-profile event attended by influential political figures, members of the press, and individuals who are central to the functioning of our democracy. Under such circumstances, the American people reasonably expect the highest level of security and protocol.
Instead, reports have surfaced describing a lack of basic safeguards—elevator access without key card restrictions, an apparent absence of visible high-security enforcement, and a general atmosphere that did not reflect the seriousness of the event or the potential risks involved. Whether these reports are fully accurate or not, the fact that they are even plausible should concern every one of you.
This raises a simple but urgent question:
Why should the American people have confidence in the safety, integrity, and seriousness of these events if even baseline security measures appear inconsistent or neglected? Unless of course the whole attempt was just staged for Trump’s low approval ratings…
At a time when public trust in government is already strained, inconsistencies like these only deepen skepticism. Americans are asked every day to accept official narratives, to trust in institutional competence, and to believe that their leaders are acting responsibly. That trust must be earned—and maintained—through transparency and accountability.
There is also a broader pattern that cannot be ignored: moments of heightened political tension or declining public approval are often followed by dramatic, attention-grabbing developments that shift the national conversation. Whether coincidental or not, these patterns deserve scrutiny—not dismissal.
I am asking Congress to do the following:
- Conduct a full and transparent review of the security protocols in place for this event
- Publicly clarify what measures were taken, and why any standard procedures may not have been followed
- Establish clear, enforceable standards for security at future high-profile political gatherings
- Communicate these findings directly to the American people
This is not about partisanship. It is about credibility. It is about safety. And it is about whether the public can reasonably trust that those in power are taking their responsibilities seriously.
The American people are paying attention. We deserve answers—not reassurances, not deflection, but facts.
