An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Enact federal "No Secret Police" law NOW, no more masks

It is deeply concerning that law enforcement officers are allowed to conceal their identities and evade accountability through the use of face coverings while on duty. This undermines public trust and runs counter to principles of transparency in a democratic society.   The recent disturbing incidents of unidentified federal agents detaining protesters in Portland, Oregon underscore the urgent need for federal legislation prohibiting this deceptive and unethical practice. By enacting a federal "No Secret Police" law mirroring Senator Wiener's proposed bill in California, Congress can safeguard civil liberties, protect the rights of peaceful assembly and free speech, and ensure law enforcement operates with proper oversight.   Failing to take decisive action risks further eroding faith in public institutions and enabling escalating abuses of power. I urge you to prioritize the introduction and passage of such legislation to uphold fundamental American values of openness and justice for all citizens.
