Please vote in favor of the bipartisan Social Security Fairness Act (SSFA HR-82) which would eliminate the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). It unfairly penalizes workers who change careers paying into both SS and and a retirement pension. If a public employee has a spouse who pays into SS, they are unfairly penalized by the GPO. They better hope their spouse does not pass before them. Nine out of 10 public employees lose their entire spousal benefit, even though their spouse paid into SS their entire life. Many calculate that they would have been better off financially if they had been a housewife instead of spending a career as a teacher or other public servant. Please vote in favor of SSFA and undo these unjust penalties.
