An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend the Constitution: Oversight Now

45 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing as a constituent to formally request the exercise of Congress’s constitutional oversight and accountability authority in response to recent public statements and reported communications by President Trump regarding the potential acquisition or annexation of Greenland. Under Article I of the U.S. Constitution, Congress holds the power to regulate foreign commerce, appropriate funds, and provide oversight of executive conduct, including foreign policy actions that may implicate international law, treaty obligations, and national security. Denmark is a longstanding treaty ally of the United States, and Greenland is a self-governing territory whose political status is a matter of self-determination under established international norms. Any attempt to “acquire” territory from an allied nation raises serious legal, diplomatic, and constitutional concerns. I respectfully urge you to use all appropriate legislative and constitutional tools available to: - Publicly oppose any effort to annex or otherwise “acquire” Greenland without the lawful consent of its people and the explicit authorization of Congress - Demand transparency and formal reporting regarding any executive communications or negotiations with allied governments related to territorial acquisition - Conduct robust oversight hearings concerning the use of federal and military authority in domestic contexts, particularly as it relates to the civil liberties of U.S. citizens - Initiate or support independent, third-party, neutral evaluations of the President’s fitness for office, consistent with Congress’s constitutional responsibilities, including those contemplated under the Twenty-Fifth Amendment and Congress’s impeachment and investigatory authorities Congress serves as a coequal branch of government and a constitutional safeguard against the concentration or misuse of executive power. The public depends on you to ensure that U.S. foreign policy, domestic governance, and national security actions remain grounded in law, democratic norms, and respect for international alliances. I appreciate your attention to this matter and ask that you clearly communicate to your constituents the steps you are taking to uphold constitutional accountability and the rule of law during this critical moment.
