Publish and Certify the ERA

Now, before President Biden and Vice President Harris complete their terms, we have a crucial task to accomplish for the safety and well-being of women and girls in the United States. It is long overdue, and it is time to formally publish and certify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as the 28th Amendment to our Constitution. The ERA surpassed the ratification threshold during Trump’s first term when Virginia ratified it on January 27, 2020. (Illinois had also ratified the ERA during Trump’s first term, which is significant.) However, due to Republican obstruction, the National Archivist has yet to formally publish and certify the ERA. By doing so now, the Biden-Harris Administration can establish essential safeguards against the upcoming Trump administration and provide crucial tools for combating discrimination against women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals across the nation. Moreover, this achievement will leave an indelible legacy for the Biden-Harris Administration and all Democrats in office. As we approach the Trump administration, I strongly urge you to contact Vice President Harris and demand that the ERA be published immediately to enshrine gender equality in our Constitution. This is not merely a matter of concern for women, girls, and LGBTQ+ individuals; it is a matter of humanity as a whole. What affects half of us will inevitably impact the entire population.
