A Call to Constitutional Duty: Protect American Democracy and Global Stability

18 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I am writing to you at a moment of profound constitutional crisis. For nearly a year, we have witnessed conduct from the President that violates his oath of office, threatens our national security, destabilizes our alliances, and betrays the fundamental principles upon which our republic was founded. The time for equivocation has passed. I urge you—as my elected representative and as a guardian of our Constitution—to immediately pursue impeachment proceedings or invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office. The President's threats of military and economic coercion against allied nations for territorial conquest are not mere policy disagreements—they represent a fundamental abandonment of American values and strategic interests. Our alliances, built over eight decades at tremendous cost in blood and treasure, form the bedrock of global stability and American security. Threatening sovereign allies with punitive action to seize territory is the behavior of authoritarian regimes, not of the leader of the free world. These actions directly undermine: - NATO and our collective defense commitments that have prevented great power conflict since 1945 - The rules-based international order that has enabled unprecedented peace and prosperity - American credibility and moral standing in the world - The safety and security of American citizens, service members, and interests abroad When the President of the United States threatens conquest rather than defending sovereignty, he abandons not just our allies but the entire framework that has made America safe and prosperous. Over the past year, we have witnessed a sustained pattern of conduct that violates the President's constitutional obligations. Whether through attempts to coerce allied governments, abuse of executive power for personal or political gain, obstruction of legitimate oversight, or violations of federal law, the evidence demands congressional action. Each incident alone warrants serious investigation; together, they constitute an overwhelming case for removal. Congress has both the authority and the obligation to hold the President accountable. The impeachment power exists precisely for moments like this—when a President's conduct threatens the Constitution, our democratic institutions, and the American people. Beyond impeachable conduct, there are serious and credible concerns about the President's mental and physical fitness to discharge the duties of the office. Reports of what appears to be a stroke, combined with erratic behavior and impaired decision-making, raise urgent questions about whether the President is capable of executing his responsibilities. The 25th Amendment provides a constitutional mechanism precisely for such circumstances. The Vice President and Cabinet have a solemn duty to assess whether the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office. If they fail to act, Congress must step in through impeachment. The stakes are too high to allow denial or political calculation to override constitutional obligation. The Imperial Presidency must be checked. Our founders designed a system of co-equal branches specifically to prevent the concentration of unchecked power in a single individual. When the President acts as though he is above the law, threatens allies with military force for territorial gain, and demonstrates unfitness for office, Congress must fulfill its role as a check on executive overreach. This is not about partisan politics—it is about preserving the Constitution and protecting the American people. Throughout our history, Congress has risen to meet threats to our democracy, from Watergate to countless other moments when institutional courage was required. This is such a moment. I understand the political complexities you face. But I did not elect you to be politically expedient; I elected you to defend the Constitution and protect our country. History will judge not just this President's actions, but Congress's response to them. I am asking you to: 1. Initiate or support impeachment proceedings based on the pattern of constitutional violations and abuse of power over the past year 2. Call for invocation of the 25th Amendment if there is credible evidence the President is mentally or physically unfit after consulting with medical professionals 3. Use every tool of congressional oversight to investigate and expose misconduct 4. Speak publicly about the threat this President poses to our democracy and our alliances 5. Put country over party and work with colleagues across the aisle to fulfill your constitutional duty We are at a crossroads. The actions you take in the coming weeks will define not just your legacy, but the future of American democracy and our role in the world. Our allies are watching. Our adversaries are watching. History is watching. I am calling on you to honor your oath to support and defend the Constitution. Impeach this President. Invoke the 25th Amendment. Do whatever is necessary to protect our republic from a leader who has shown himself to be dangerous, unfit, and fundamentally at odds with American values. The Constitution provides the tools. The evidence demands action. The moment requires courage. I trust you will rise to meet it.
