I am writing to ask what Congress is going to do about the ruthless attack taking place on our federal government and the rule of law? Some of the things that have happened in the past two weeks include:
• Illegal firing of at least 17 Inspector Generals. Their role is to investigate wrongdoing within the federal government. Why did they want them gone?
• Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) is now illegal. The purpose of most federal aid is to increase equity and accessibility. Why do they not want to do this?
• Hostile takeover of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM). Career civil servants were fired, an outside email server was set up to communicate directly with all federal employees, bypassing the chain of command and opening up a huge national security risk. Why is this being done?
• Civil service employees and job seekers are being subjected to loyalty tests. The civil service is designed to be apolitical to serve in the best interest of Americans regardless of who is in the White House. Why is loyalty being required?
• Schedule F is being revived to reclass tens of thousands of civil servants, making them easier to remove from their positions. The merit system and due process rights are designed to ensure continuity and impartiality of services regardless of who is in the White House. Why is this change being made and who benefits?
• Civil service employees are being encouraged to doge their duties and abandon their “lower productivity jobs in the public sector to higher productivity jobs in the private sector.” Why is such vile contemptuousness being shown to people who faithfully serve our country?
• Previously appropriated federal grants and loans were/are frozen until loyalty to the new administration can be verified. States cannot disburse federal funds for the purposes they were given, Americans have lost their jobs and vital public sector work is on hold until an undetermined future time. What is the purpose of this callous assault on the public sector?
• Hundreds of internal contractors working for the U.S. Agency for International Development are being put on unpaid leave and some are being terminated after a freeze on U.S. foreign aid. Is America an island unto itself now?
• Two Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) commissioners were removed without cause and a senior Treasury official is set to resign after refusing to fork over access to department payment systems. What is the justification for these actions?
• The head of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stepped down and air traffic controllers were pressured to resign shortly before the worst U.S. aviation crash in decades which killed 67 civilians. Is there a connection?
My family and I are watching and waiting for Congress to take action. What musk happen before the people sworn to protect us from enemies both foreign and domestic will step up and defend our democracy?
Do not delay, uphold your oath today.
